Greetings Survivors!
Today, I want to talk to you about surviving in the real world while playing our game in the woods of Arkansas! Last year We had a conversation about playing in the cold and wet. Today, we want to talk about playing in the Hot and Muggy!
Spring has definitely sprung and each game will get hotter as we move forward into the summer! That warmth is not only becoming something that we have to worry about but we are going to have an increase of bugs to deal with as well!
So to begin, The heat is a huge threat to our health. So avoid heat exhaustion:
Wear loose fitting, lightweight clothing. ...
Protect against sunburn. ...
Drink plenty of fluids. ...
Take extra precautions with certain medications. ...
Make sure your Costume has removable layers
Take it easy during the hottest parts of the day. ...
Get acclimated. ...
Be cautious if you're at increased risk.
Be smart when it comes to heat and you will be able to have a good time and not have to visit the medical Cabin!
As for bugs on our site, we have a collection of things that can cause issues. Ticks, Chiggers, Mosquitoes can make you miserable or sick if you dont take proactive steps to make them avoid you! you're outside at a time of day when insects are particularly active, such as sunrise or sunset, cover your skin by wearing long sleeves and trousers. wear shoes when outdoors. apply insect repellent to exposed skin – repellents that contain 50% DEET (diethyltoluamide) are most effective.
Ticks are the big thing we want to watch out for. Here is some info for the CDC for prevention:
Prevent Tick Bites
Know where to expect ticks. Ticks live in grassy, brushy, or wooded areas, or even on animals. Spending time outside walking your dog, camping, gardening, or hunting could bring you in close contact with ticks. Many people get ticks in their own yard or neighborhood.
Treat clothing and gear with products containing 0.5% permethrin. Permethrin can be used to treat boots, clothing and camping gear and remain protective through several washings. Alternatively, you can buy permethrin-treated clothing and gear.
Use Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE), para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone. EPA’s helpful search tool can help you find the product that best suits your needs. Always follow product instructions. Do not use products containing OLE or PMD on children under 3 years old.
Avoid Contact with Ticks
Avoid wooded and brushy areas with high grass and leaf litter.
Walk in the center of trails.
I am sure our veteran players have more tips and tricks to share with these two topics! So lets hear from you about how your control your heat levels and what you do to stay safe from bugs!
Till next time Fam!!
See you in the Waste!!
