Pro-Tip Thursday! Safe Combat!

Greetings Survivors!!!

Welcome back to another Thursday addition of Pro-Tip Thursday!  Yes, life has slowed down a little for me so I am back in the groove!!!!  (*authors note** I don’t promise to stay in the groove but you are getting lucky today!)

With today’s Pro-Tip we are going to return to COMBAT!!!!

Combat is one of the exciting parts of our game.  Most of us have played tabletop games where in our mind’s eye our characters fight the heroic battles, slay the mighty beast or possibly make the ultimate sacrifice to save our friends.  We feel that in our bones, it becomes the stories of legends!!!  Dystopia Rising gives us a chance to actually swing that sword and stand with our friends against the foes of our world!

On the Feb 3 Pro-Tip Thursday we started the conversation about combat rules and the combat basics.  Today I want to discuss safe combat tactics.

Let’s begin with what Safe Combat tactics look like? Like I mentioned in the Feb 3 article we use the lightest touch combat method.   We do not use all the power in bodies to deliver a blow.  We control the power of our attacks because we are not in the business of hitting as hard as we can.  We also want to be safe in how we engage in combat.

When we engage in combat, we want to make sure we are in control of how we are approaching other players and give each other the room to fight safely.  We want to make sure there is enough room for a person between us.  If we are stepping up to strike the other we do not want to leap at them in order to get in a quick strike.  That can cause a chain event that leads to someone getting hurt.  It is natural for someone to jump back when someone leaps at them.  This is where terrain, other people,  or just our natural ability to trip over things start leading to a dangerous combat situation.  Big fights in the dark  are already dangerous with not being able to see terrain.  When you add uncontrolled combat to that it can lead to people getting hurt.  So we ask that you keep the following things in mind while fighting.

  1. Be aware of your surroundings.  Look at the terrain.  Be careful of mud, rocks, trees and any other physical object.

  2. Make sure you are physically prepared for combat.  This is important for being able to control the safety of a combat. If you are too tired, hurt or not in a good mindset for combat, walk away from it.

  3. Be kind to the other person.  Everyone is on a different level of physical abilities. The idea is to have fun doing this, not put a beat down on a weaker opponent.  The more experience you have in our game, the more responsibility you will have to help make sure everyone is having a safe good time.

  4. Safety first. Just because you can make that move on the opponent, make sure its safe for both them and you  to do it.

  5. Look for the orange or blue.  Non-combat players and Bluebirds are always around. Make sure you are aware of those wearing orange and keep an eye on bluebirds.

Keeping these things in mind will help us all to make sure we are being safe and everyone has fun at our game. That concept is woven into so many different  aspects of our game and Community.

Ok all Till next time!!!

Stay Safe and We will see you in the Waste!!!
